چکیده

IN Britain, ocular involvement by Toxocara was first recognized by Ashton (1960), who reported four -qses of granulomatous lesions of the retina due to this ascarid nematode, common in dogs and cats. Stimulated by these revelations, attention has since been focused on this aspect of ophthalmology and it appears that some ocular lesions caused by Toxocara have in the past been attributed mistakenly to other causes such as organized haemorrhage or exudate, Coats's disease, and choroiditis. In Ashton's series, all four eyes had been enucleated because the fundus lesions appeared similar to those of retinoblastoma, and not until after the completion of histological examination was the correct diagnosis established. 28 cases of ocular infestation by Toxocara have now been examined at the Institute of Ophthalmology, London:

Serodiagnosis of Toxocara among Infants and Pregnant Women Suspected of Ocular or Visceral Toxocariasis Using Two Types of ELISA Antigens

Background: The diagnosis of toxocariasis heavily depends on immunological tests because the number of parasites is usually few in infected tissues, unless they migrate into an organ such as eye. In general, patients with ocular toxocariasis have serum anti- T canis antibody titres that are significantly lower than those with visceral toxocariasis. Objective: To diagnose the asymptomatic toxoca...

Toxocariasis: A Rare Cause of Multiple Cerebral Infarction

Toxocariasis is a parasitic infection caused by the roundworms Toxocara canis or Toxocara cati, mostly due to accidental ingestion of embryonated eggs. Clinical manifestations vary and are classified as visceral larva migrans or ocular larva migrans according to the organs affected. Central nervous system involvement is an unusual complication. Here, we report a case of multiple cerebral infarc...

Chronic Endophthalmitis Due to Toxocara.

NEMATODE infestations of the eye evoked little or no interest until the middle of the 20th century when Wilder (1950), whilst carrying out a histological survey of 46 cases of pseudogliomata, found nematode larvae or their hyaline capsules in 24, and tissue reactions characteristic of nematode endophthalmitis in the remaining 22. At that time, the larvae found in Wilder's series were believed t...

Misdiagnosis of Ocular Leech Infestation

Leeches are segmented worms belonging to Phylum Annelida and make up the subclass Hirudinea. Leeches have been historically used in medicine to suck blood from patients. Ocular infestation with leech is rare, moreover it is often misdiagnosed. In this report, we describe 2 patients with continuous bright ocular bleeding after swimming in a pool, and pseudo iris prolapse in a child after trauma ...
